Flip Flops (Shower Shoes)
Do you like to visit and talk to people? Do you sing, dance or play in a group that does? Would you like to entertain with music? Do you like to play table games? Do you like to make people feel special? Do you want to feel good about yourself? You can do all the above by having an event/party on one of the Mississippi State Hospital buildings.
Some of our volunteers schedule parties well in advance. Parties can be planned on a one time basis, or be monthly, quarterly or yearly. Parties can be theme based or be planned around the different holidays. It can be as simple as cookies and punch, finger foods or a full blown turkey and dressing dinner with ham on the side. Picnics and cookouts are always fun. We provide the plates, napkins, cups, ice and punchbowl.
Events or activities can be planned around entertainment. Singing, choir performances, dancing, games, readings and devotionals are some of what our volunteers offer. Each building has an activity room for events. Accommodations can be made to handle large groups. We also have an auditorium that seats 400 and a lakeside park with a stage, bleachers and a pavilion.
The Christmas season offers many opportunities for volunteers. The MSH “Christmas House” is the center for all yuletide activities. For more information see our Christmas House Page.
Christmas, Easter and St. Patrick's Day parties are ways to celebrate the season. Entertaining, gifts and food is for all occasions.
Would you like to work on a project or make a monetary donation?
There is always a need for board games, sports equipment and art supplies at MSH. Collecting funds or purchasing these items makes a great benevolence project or community service project. Each patient or resident building on campus has its own personality and needs. You can contact us for more information regarding needs or wants of the buildings.
Monetary donations are always accepted and may be designated for a specific activity, a need for a building or department or used to purchase clothing items for patients, residents and individuals served in the community.
You can designate an honorarium or memoriam in an individual's name. All contributions by individuals and businesses are tax deductible for income tax purposes. These can be designated for a specific purpose as well.
While we encourage and appreciate free giving, please see our list of acceptable items for patients on the Christmas at MSH page.
Poles and worms are needed every year at our annual fishing event in May. Wii games can be enjoyed by all age groups. Sponsor patients/residents in the Harry O'Steen Golf Tournament in June at the MSH Golf Course. Watermelons are always a hit! Paint or finance a mural to brighten up a room on campus. Help plot and number the graves in Rosehill Cemetery or make a commitment to purchase headstones.
