Miss. State Hospital Director Named to Miss. Hospital Association's Board of Governors

December 20, 2002

WHITFIELD–The Mississippi Hospital Association (MHA) recently named James G. Chastain, CHE, director of Mississippi State Hospital (MSH) in Whitfield, to its Board of Governors for 2002-2003.

MHA was formed in 1931 to promote and protect the interests of its more than 100 member hospitals and health systems and their 50,000 employees.

"James Chastain was chosen to serve on the Mississippi Hospital Association Board of Governors because of the great respect he has earned in the hospital community and the behavioral health profession. His knowledge of behavioral health care and issues that affect behavioral health care will be a great tool for the MHA Board," said Sam Cameron, MHA president/CEO.

Chastain has long been actively involved in MHA. He currently serves as president of MHA's Jackson-Vicksburg Hospital Council and is a board member of the MHA Society of Behavioral Health. He is a past member of MHA's Finance Committee.

Dedicated to mental health care and community service, Chastain chairs the Mental Health Association of the Capital Area Golf Tournament Steering Committee which organizes the annual James C. Stubbs Memorial Golf Classic, the association's annual fund-raising event. He is also an Advisory Board member for the Mississippi Arts Fair for the Handicapped.

Chastain has served as director of MSH since 1993. He is licensed as a mental health therapist and nursing home administrator and is a diplomate of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
